Newly Formed Department of Public Works Building Committee Seeks Public Participation

July 15, 2023

At the July 10, 2023 Acton Select Board meeting, the Board approved the formation of a Department of Public Works (DPW) Building committee to implement the 60% design measure that was approved at the May 1, 2023 Town Meeting for the 14 Forest Street building. The committee will include Select Board member Dean Charter as Select Board liaison and other town officials from appropriate departments and committees. The committee seeks “four community members with experience in construction, energy-efficient design, engineering, architecture, finance, legal, real estate development, Public Works operations or other complementary skills.”

A draft of the document establishing the committee, published before small changes were made following discussion among the Board members, is at https://doc.actonma.gov/dsweb/Get/Document-87734/050%20(6)%20%20Public%20Works%20Facility%20Building%20Committee%20Draft%20Charge.pdf . The creation of the committee follows two years of evaluation of the present building. Feasibility reports and other documentation of the evaluation of the building, including a video walk-through, are available at the Town of Acton website.
