Acton-Boxborough baseball field, May 9: The color pink was abundant Thursday, most notably on the home team’s jerseys, as the A-B Revolution hosted Dual County League rival Bedford in a game to raise funds for the American Cancer Society Hope at Bat crusade against cancer. Longtime Acton resident, coach, and cancer survivor Ray Gallant threw out the ceremonial first pitch after being introduced by Booster Club president, Kristina Rychlik.
The game itself was tied at one-all after six innings, thanks to error-free defense, and the sharp pitching of A-B’s Matthew Bromberg, who allowed six hits in the game, and the Buccaneers’ tandem of Anderson Marino and Ryan McGrath, who gave up only three. In the seventh, however, Bedford erupted for four runs resulting from two hit batsmen, a sacrifice bunt, a walk, single, and two A-B errors. The Rev’s last chance in the bottom of the frame was snuffed out by closer McGrath, who retired the side in order. With the 5-1 win, Bedford improves to 3-8, while A-B falls to 3-9.
On May 14, at 4:30, Coach Patrick Grucela and his squad planned to welcome 7-7 Dual County league opponent Waltham.
