Bedford flamethrower no-hits Revolution

May 13, Acton-Boxborough softball field: The Bedford Buccaneers’ Alyxandra Rossi strode into town looking for strikeout victims, and she found twenty-one, including four in one inning, thanks to a dropped third strike. That drop, and two walks, were the Revolutions’ only baserunners in their 7-0 Dual County League loss.

Bedford’s offense got all they needed in the first inning, when their pitcher singled, stole second, and scored on an error. The Bucs added four more runs in the third, with four consecutive hits, including Addison Poulter’s single, Rossi’s triple, Lexi Masters’ single, and Alice Cooprider’s ground-rule double. The Rev’s Ila Gillespie then shut the door with three straight strikeouts, ending up with twelve for the game. Bedford added two more in the sixth with a couple of errors and wild pitches.

Bedford improved to 13-1, while A-B fell to 7-7. Coach Kara O’Riley’s Revs traveled to Cambridge Rindge and Latin on the 15th, and Lincoln-Sudbury on the 17th.

Pitching prevails as bats go silent

May 14, Acton-Boxborough baseball field: The Waltham Hawks scored five of their eight runs in the first inning, to set the tone for a shutout of their Dual-County League rival Tuesday. Their first two batters singled, and scored after advancing by a walk, wild pitch, and two sacrifice flies.

A-B Revolution pitcher Matthew Bromberg kept the Waltham bats quiet for the next four innings before surrendering three of the Hawks’ seven hits in the sixth, which, aided by a walk and sacrifice bunt, plated three more runs for the visitors. A groundout finally ended the damage.

For the day, Bromberg walked three, while Waltham’s Isaac Shatsoff walked two, and scattered three hits. A-B tried to improve their 3-10 record when they hosted Lincoln-Sudbury on May 17, and traveled to Lexington on May 20.
