Coach has high hopes for girl hoopsters

December 13, 2024

When this reporter reached out to the Acton-Boxborough winter sports coaches for a season preview, girls basketball coach Jesus Rodriguez was the first to respond. In a phone conversation today, Mr. Rodriguez said his young squad will benefit from the experience of one returning senior, plus junior Claire Chimento. But to top last year’s 15-8 record, he’ll also rely heavily on some ultra-talented, and tall, freshmen: Maura Quirk, a 6’1″ power center; Josie Abakah; Ashley Harrington at 6’0″; and freshman star Izzy Santiago, who should come roaring back to the hardwood after recovering from a torn ACL.

The Revs played a scrimmage Dec. 10 at Belmont High School, and will tip off their regular season on Dec.16, when they host Bay Path Regional Voc-Tech.
