Preamble: The Acton Exchange (AE) Calendar Policy is designed to keep the focus on events that happen in Acton or prominently feature Acton participants, to encourage community engagement, and to serve Acton residents and businesses. The policy is implemented by the Calendar Team, overseen by the Editorial Team and supported by the Tech Team.
Caveats: Acton Exchange is not responsible for errors or omissions. Event descriptions are provided by the event organizers, and do not represent opinions or recommendations by the Acton Exchange. For questions, contact the sponsoring organization.
What is accepted and published?
- All events in the Calendar must be open to the public.
- Calendar entries are published at the discretion of the Acton Exchange.
- All calendar events will be reviewed by the calendar team before posting. There will be no auto-posting of submitted events.
- Event descriptions may be copy-edited for clarity or length but will not be edited for tone (organizers’ enthusiasm can show through) or fact-checked for accuracy.
- Event descriptions can include only text and hyperlinks; no graphics or photographs.
- The Calendar Team will scan the horizon for events happening in Acton that will be of interest to Acton residents.
- The AE will accept contributed calendar entries from non-profits organizations in the towns surrounding Acton, but will not proactively seek out such entries.
- The AE will accept contributed calendar entries from non-profits farther afield if Acton resident(s) are playing a prominent role (e.g. a solo or starring role in an arts event).
- The AE will accept calendar entries from for-profit businesses located in Acton. In general, the AE will not publish calendar entries from for-profit businesses located outside of Acton.
How to submit:
- We strongly encourage individuals and organizations who frequently organize events suitable for listing in the AE to become calendar contributors who can enter their own events. This ensures that the information is complete and minimizes the chance of error. To get started as a contributor, send a note to calendar@actonexchange.org along with information about your organization and contact information so we can reach you. If approved, you will be able to add, edit, and delete entries for your organization.
- Individuals and organizations that plan to only submit once or occasionally can email their event information to calendar@actonexchange.org, and it will be entered by the Calendar Team. Include: event title, date and time, location, cost, description of the event (<100 words), name of the sponsoring organization, and your own name and phone number (in case the editors need more information).
- The Calendar format only supports limited duration events that are tied to a specific date and time or that recur on a regular basis. Opportunities that do not fit this format (e.g. a survey that will remain open until a deadline, or a multi-session course that you cannot join mid-course) can be published in the weekly Bulletin Board. Submit descriptions to calendar@actonexchange.org
