Acton 250: Discovery Museum hosts Acton 250 bash

April 26, 2025

On April 16, a large crowd flocked to the “Acton 250 Committee’s Remembrance of April 19, 1775”, at the Acton Discovery Museum to enjoy socializing, historical presentations, and delicious food provided by sponsor Roche Brothers; Dirigible Brewing Company offered their historically-based Isaac Davis Brown Ale for purchase.

Before the party started, Georgia Barry, dressed as a Minuteman, rode her horse to the museum, to the delight of both kids and adults.

In the run-up to commemorating the first battle of the Revolutionary War, the Acton 250 Committee has been meeting for over two years. Beginning in September of 2023 with historian Robert Allen speaking about the Boston Tea Party, the committee has held numerous public presentations to help provide context for how the people of Massachusetts came together to start a revolution.

The Discovery Museum party was a chance for the Acton 250 Committee, along with the Acton Minutemen, to celebrate all of their hard work.

After folks had a chance to grab dinner and a tasty beverage, State Senator Jamie Eldridge presented citations from the Massachusetts House and Senate for the work done by the Acton Minutemen, and Select Board Chair Dean Charter thanked the current and past committee members for their hard work.

The Minutemen spoke about muskets and clothing, and three Minutemen demonstrated a firearm exercise, which you can see here:

Finally, Jamie Powers presented “The Davis Minute Company on April 19, 1775” about the research that he did to try to develop a complete list of the Acton Minutemen who marched to Concord.

After the speakers, people enjoyed a little more beer and celebrated both Acton’s revolution and the birthday of Pam Lynn, one of the Acton 250 members, with a well-decorated cake.
