May 2, Acton Boxborough Regional High School girls softball team: A great pitcher’s duel between A-B’s Ila Gillespie and Shrewsbury’s Marcia Bentley was ultimately decided by errors, as the A-B Revolution eked out a 4-3 extra-inning, walk-off victory over the Shrewsbury Colonials. The Revs clung to a 2-0 lead until their guests scored three runs in the sixth inning via an error, followed by three straight doubles. A-B tied it in the sixth when Anya Weir singled, Georgia Ammendolia reached on an error, and Alice Rosecan and Clara Innella both singled.

In the eighth inning, the Revs retired the side in order, and their bats then went to work. Innella reached third on an outfield error, and scored the winning run on the Colonials’ seventh miscue of the day. A-B pounded out twelve hits to Shrewsbury’s seven, and committed two errors. The local nine have won four out of their last five, to improve to 5-5. The team’s next game would be in Bedford on May 8th at 4:30.

Here and there: Fans who waited out a fifteen-minute rain delay were treated to a beautiful triple rainbow.

Note from the editors on sports coverage: The Acton Exchange has been planning to introduce sports coverage this coming fall. We need writers, editors, and photographers interested in covering school and community sports and recreation. We need policies to address issues around fairness and how to cover minors. Most importantly – and most challenging – we need a committed and talented leader to manage this complex new undertaking. If you are interested in working on this volunteer project – a very fulfilling community effort, our present volunteers say – please write to info@actonexchange.org to let us know. We will convene a sports coverage startup meeting!
