During the month of March, students and staff at R.J. Grey Junior High School collected over $1,047 to donate to the Acton Food Pantry. The Change for Change drive was a featured activity in our March Madness Tournament. Students learned about local service organizations before they began a week-long competition to see which Advisory could collect the most loose change. During March Madness, each Advisory played Trivia, Name That Tune, Pictionary, and other challenges to promote community in our building. In the end, Ms. Roadman’s Advisory collected the most money and as a result, they were able to choose the recipient for our school’s donation. They agreed that the Acton Food Pantry would be a worthy recipient!
On Thursday, May 16, Acton Food Pantry Director Donna Bottari visited RJ Grey to receive our donation of $1047.49. Ms. Bottari was able to chat with a dozen seventh graders, many of whom are researching food insecurity as part of their upcoming Civics Project. We learned that financial donations to the Food Pantry often go towards purchasing specialty items, including nuts, milk, and non-dairy proteins to help support those with food allergies. Students learned that the Food Pantry relies on over 100 volunteers per week to make their work a reality. Students and families can become involved at the Acton Food Pantry by visiting their website and filling out a volunteer form.
At R.J. Grey, we are grateful for the work that the Acton Food Pantry does to support members of our community.
