Sculpture Exhibition Reception

YV Art Museum, a non-profit art center located at 68 Quarry Road, Acton MA, is hosting the 13th annual Symposium in the realization of the “New Art Archeology”. This year, with participating artists David Adilman, Marin Murakoshi, Yin Peet and Dankha Zomaya, this New England landmark stone pile holds 79 sculptures by 32 artists from 12 countries. The exhibition reception will be held on Sunday, August 25 at 2PM. Thanks to the support of Mass Local Cultural Council in the following towns – Acton-Boxborough, Concord, Littleton, Groton and Westford, and The Oasis Foundation and Enterprise Bank. CAI is open to visitors everyday 10AM to 6PM by appointment (617-699-6401). The admission is $15 regular and $10 for senior over 65 & youth under 14.

Family-Friendly Craft Beer & Food Truck Festival

The family-friendly Assabet Craft Beer & Food Truck Festival, now in its third year, will include more local craft beer brewers, more food trucks, music from Becky and the Swingin’ Bards, and a separate, dedicated children’s area with more games, crafts and prizes.

General admission is $5-10 per person, with those 12 and under admitted free. Drink tickets are $5, and soft drinks and bottled water will be available at food trucks. The event will proceed rain or shine.

The festival will take place on Saturday, Aug. 31, from 12 to 4 p.m., at First Parish Church of Stow & Acton, 353 Great Road, Stow, MA. Its facilities are wheelchair accessible. Primary elections

The Massachusetts primary election is Tuesday, September 3, 2024. Acton voters can vote on election day at R.J.Grey Junior High School, 12 Charter Road, Acton or early at Acton Town Hall, 472 Main Street. If you signed up for Vote-By-Mail, you can mail in your ballot or drop it in the box outside of Town Hall. 

The last day to register to vote is 10 days before the upcoming election (Saturday, August 24, for the primary).

Early Voting Hours (at Town Hall) for the State Primary are Saturday August 24th from 9am until 3pm, Monday August 26th 8am until 5pm, Tuesday August 27th 8am until 7pm, Wednesday August 28th 8am until 5pm, Thursday August 29th 8am until 5pm and Friday August 30th 8am until 12pm.

Public Forum on Acton’s draft Hazard Mitigation Plan (HMP)

Acton Community Chorus

You are invited to join the Acton Community Chorus as we prepare a concert called, “This Land Was Made for You and Me,” songs of unity, equality, and finding common ground. Songs will include a new arrangement of “The Times They Are A-Changin’” by Adam Podd, “Equality is in the Air We Breathe” by Gwyneth Walker, “America, the Beautiful” by Samuel A. Ward, and “Give Me Your Tired Your Poor” by Jay Rouse. Experience how music can unite us despite our differences and inspire us to move toward a more equitable future.

Challenges facing today’s kids: Free sessions offer solutions

In a series of free informational sessions hosted by Mt. Calvary Church in Acton, MA, physician, psychologist, and New York Times bestselling author Dr. Leonard Sax will offer evidence-based insights and solutions addressing anxiety, disengagement, and other challenges facing today’s youth. Dr. Sax has spoken to parents, educators, medical professionals, and others concerned about today’s kids at more than 500 venues around the world.

“I’m really excited to be bringing Dr. Sax and his message to the greater Acton community,” says Kerry Evans, one of the organizers. “I first read his book Boys Adrift when my teenage sons were little, and it left a huge impression on me. It changed the way I raised my kids.”

Hike Acton Trails

From Acton Conservation Trust

Wednesdays, September 4- November 20

“I Hiked Acton’s Trails!”

2:30-4:00 pm

Walk the trails in Acton’s conservation areas with the goal of earning a sticker and a sew-on patch! This weekly set of walks (typically 1-2 miles) is a joint effort between Acton Conservation Trust and Acton Conservation Division. We will complete the remainder of 22 conservation land walks which started last spring. Check out the “I Hiked Acton’s Trails” Challenge form HERE for more information about the challenge.
