Turning Acton into action

November 2, 2024

Long-time Acton resident Judy Wolff has created and produced four-inch magnets with the slogan, “I put action in Acton”, that she is offering to nonprofits at her cost so they can sell them as a fundraiser. In this interview Wolff told us all about this innovative marketing idea.

How did you come up with this idea?

Many years before moving to Acton, I saw how adding the letter “I” to the town’s name made the word “action,” and the slogan just popped into my head. But at the time I was busy working crazy hours and had no time to think about what to do with the slogan. I just filed it away as a fun project for when I had more time.

I’ve always been interested in puzzles and wordplay. In addition to working as a technical editor for 30 years, I’ve competed in crossword puzzle tournaments and have been a member of the National Puzzlers’ League for more than 40 years. Playing with words makes me happy.

Can the magnets be customized? Is other merchandise available?

Yes and yes. I had my graphic designer create a design that could easily accommodate a logo or other image. If other merchandise is desired, I will take care of production and sell to organizations at my cost. Also, I offer a non-exclusive license to use the design for a ridiculously small fee.

Can residents who arent affiliated with nonprofits buy the magnet?

Absolutely! They’re on sale at The Silver Unicorn and directly from me. I will donate my share of any profits to local charities.

Why arent you keeping the profits?

Because I love living in this town and this is a small, enjoyable way for me to support our fabulous local charities and other nonprofit organizations.
