Was Silver Girl ribbon cutting prelude to bigger plans this fall?

March 15, 2025

There have been so many ribbon cuttings at new restaurants in Acton lately that Maura Haberman, the event coordinator for the Town’s Economic Development Office, has just sent out the giant scissors used by business owners and local officials for these ceremonies to be sharpened.

The latest ribbon cutting ceremony was held at Silver Girl, which is located at 251 Arlington Street in West Acton Village. As Jeff Brown reported back in December 2024, the restaurant is owned by Tamara Deluzio and Dawn Aguiar, who also own Eve and Murray’s at the other end of West Acton center, right below True West.

On Friday, March 7, 2025, an army of people turned up for the ribbon cutting ceremony at the new restaurant, which features “deliciously elevated comfort food, in a sumptuous, intimate setting.”

There were short speeches by Town Manager John Mangiaratti and State Rep. Danillo Sena.

This was followed by the traditional cutting of a red ribbon by Deluzio and Aguiar with a pair of giant scissors. At both this and the Velvet Vine ribbon cutting ceremony, it took several attempts to cut the ribbon with the well-used scissors.

Among the paparazzi who covered the Silver Girl ribbon cutting ceremony was Vivian Kobusingye Birchall, the Production & Outreach Coordinator at Acton TV.

Following the event, a smaller group stayed for lunch. There were no violations of the Open Meeting Law because there wasn’t a quorum of the Town’s Select Board, Finance Committee, or Economic Development Committee (EDC) present. But the conversation did stray beyond the lunch entrees on the menu.

An elegant lunch: Potatoes, a ramiken of au jus, and a grilled cheese and meat sandwich, all on a dark oval plate.

Disclosure: I ordered the French Dip Grilled Cheese, with shredded braised beef, caramelized onion jam, raclette cheese on French sourdough, au jus. And I paid $19 for my own meal, so no taxpayer money was spent.

During the lunchtime conversation, we talked about the recent ribbon cutting ceremony at the Velvet Vine Café, which is located at 166 Great Road, as well as the upcoming ribbon cutting event at Luna Mexican Cuisine, which is located at 20 Nagog Park.

And it appears that when Restaurant Week rolls around in Acton from Oct. 19 to 26, we’re going to need a longer week.

That’s why Acton residents, local officials, and town employees may want to pay attention to the EDC’s posted agenda for the meeting on Friday, March 14, 2025. There is an innocent looking item that says, “ED Events – Ribbon Cuttings.”

Now, as philosopher/baseball great Yogi Berra once said, “It’s tough to make predictions, especially about the future.” But don’t be surprised if a few of the ideas which were discussed over lunch at the Silver Girl ribbon cutting event last week get turned into much bigger plans for Restaurant Week this fall.
